A RELATIVE’S VISA
 
A foreigner, who is a member of the immediate family of a South African citizen or permanent resident, may be issued with a relative’s visa, provided that such citizen or permanent resident provides the prescribed financial assurance. The following documentation must be submitted in respect of each person applying for a relative’s visa:
  • a duly completed visa application form (BI-1738) in English, personally signed by the applicant in black ink (attached);
  • two coloured recent passport type photographs on white background(3.5x4.5 in size) attached to the application on the right side;
  • a passport valid for no less than thirty (30) days after departure from the Republic of South Africa, and containing at least two (2) blank pages for endorsements;
  • a copy of passport, page with photograph;
  • where the applicant is the spouse of a citizen or permanent resident, he/she shall submit either:
    a) a marriage certificate in the case of a married applicant; or
    b) proof of a permanent spousal relationship, in the case of so called life partners, including:

    (i)   the prescribed affidavit;
    (ii). documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties;
    (iii).proof of a legal divorce or the death of a spouse, in the event of a preceding marriage; and
    (iv). in the case of a relationship concluded between two foreigners in a foreign country, official recognition thereof issued by the authorities of the relevant country;
    (v) A copy of document must be certified by Public Notary and must be translated into English, by sworn translator and certified by Public Notary, if the original marriage certificate is not in English;
  • a police clearance certificate, issued by the police or security authority in each country where the applicant resided for 12 months or longer since having attained the age of 18 years, in respect of criminal records or the character of the applicant, and this certificate¬† shall not be older than six (6) months at the time of its submission. Original must be translated into English and certified by Public Notary, if the original is not in English;
  • a medical report (see Form BI-811), which shall not be older than six (6) months at the time of its submission; Original must be translated into English and certified by Public Notary, if the original is not in English;
  • a radiological report (see Form BI-806), which shall not be older than six (6) months at the time of its submission, and shall not be required in respect of children under the age of 12 years or pregnant women; Original must be translated into English and certified by Public Notary, if the original is not in English;
  • proof of kinship between the applicant and the South African citizen or permanent resident, by submitting certified copy of unabridged birth certificates; Must be translated into English and certified by Public Notary, if the original birth certificate is not in English;
  • proof of South African citizenship or permanent residence status of the applicant’s relative, by submitting a valid South African passport or foreign passport including the permanent residence endorsement respectively;
  • the financial assurance shall be an amount of R 8 500 per person per month, as determine from time to time by the Minister by notice in the Gazette, to be proven by means of a current salary advise or a certified bank statement not older than three months at the time of application. Provided that financial assurance shall not be applicable where the applicant is a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen.
  • confirmation of the applicant’s valid mobile phone number and email address;
  • the non-refundable application fee of 6600 KZT,- (this application fee shall not be applicable where the applicant is a spouse or dependent minor child of a South African citizen or permanent resident).
  • Payment of the above-mentioned application fee, to be made through a bank transfer to the following account:

Please take note that under no circumstances will the Department of Home Affairs refund any person under any given reason for services already paid for or rendered

Note:
  • Relative’s permits may not be issued for a period exceeding two (2) years.
  • The holder of a relative’s permit may not conduct work in the Republic of South Africa.
  • Documentation that accompanies the application shall be original or certified copies and translated by a sworn translator into English.
  • A complete application should be submitted personally during the consular opening hours: Mon-Fri; 09:00-12:30.
