On 21 - 24 January 2013 H.E. Ambassador Robina visited Myanmar to foster trade expansion between South Africa and Myanmar. During this visit Ambassador Marks paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Commerce, H.E. U Win Myint in the Capital, NawPyiTaw and held business meetings in the Commerce City, Yangon.

The meeting with the Commerce meetings elaborated on the need to identify key products for import/export purpose in order to expand existing trade relations. The two agreed that political relations between South Africa and Myanmar are cordial and very strong but more needed to be done to increase the lopsided and small trade figures. There was an understating that both countries should encourage exchanged business visits to seize existing business opportunities in the respective countries. Myanmar’s reforms is proceeding apace with many visits by countries and businesses in a scramble for business opportunities.
