Ambassador’s Message of Welcome to the South African Embassy Website
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of South Africa in Beijing which serves to promote South Africa’s interest in People’s Republic of China. The Embassy is also accredited to the neighbouring countries of Mongolia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Together with my team at the Embassy as well as the Consulates-General in Shanghai and Hong Kong, we seek to advance efforts to promote South Africa’s national interests and values, the African Renaissance and the creation of a better world for all.

South Africa is a country blessed with an abundance of natural resources, a unique combination of a well-developed first world economic infrastructure alongside a vibrant emerging market economy. We sustain a globally competitive financial sector and boast a modern transportation and logistics system as well as an advanced information and communications technology infrastructure. South Africa is a major player on both continental and global economic landscape and an attractive destination for inward investment, trade and business. We invite you to explore these opportunities.

South Africa is also a popular tourist destination, offering visitors unforgettable and unique experiences including culture, natural beauty, wildlife, history, food and wine. We have four visa application centres in mainland China with five more to open before the end of 2016 to further facilitate visa applications.

Bilateral relations between South Africa and China have gone from strength to strength since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1998. China is South Africa’s single largest trading partner with total bilateral trade in 2015 amounting to ZAR 293, 6 billion. South Africa and China enjoy a comprehensive strategic partnership which finds expression in many agreements enhancing our relations and promoting trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges to name but a few.

South Africa and China do not only cooperate bilaterally but also partner in BRICS, the G20, the G77 + China and many other multilateral organisations where our mutual aim is the achievement of a more equitable world order. South Africa is the co-chair of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) until 2018 and proudly hosted the first FOCAC Summit to be held on African soil in Johannesburg in December 2015.

I trust that citizens of both South Africa and China will find this website useful. The website contains sections outlining the role of the South African Embassy in China and also provides useful contact details. Guests to the website are also encouraged to forward any suggestions or comments to for improve the website (beijingemb@dirco.gov.za). The website can also be used to view general information on South Africa.
