COVID-19 Pandemic

Travel Advisory in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Temporary Measures in respect of Foreign Nationals in light of the COVID-19 Epidemic
Message by Ambassador VW Mavimbela.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the South African Embassy website. With this website we intend to provide information on the functioning and activities of the South African Government through links of various Government Departments and Institutions.

Since the dawn of democracy South Africa has become strongly interconnected with the rest of the world. We export a vast range of products to many countries across the globe. Our exports to the world have increasingly diversified over the years, although as a country, we were greatly affected by the global financial and economic crisis.

South Africa has a well-developed transport and logistical infrastructure, advanced banking systems and competitive industries which makes it an investment destination both for the market opportunities that lie within its borders and as a gateway to the rest of the Continent. South Africa is amongst the strongest economies on the Continent, and forms part of the BRICS group of countries with Brazil, Russia, India and China. We have a favourable demographic profile and our rapidly expanding middle class has a rising spending power. The country has abundant natural resources (including coal, platinum, coal, gold, iron ore, manganese nickel, uranium and chromium) and there is increased attention from international exploration companies, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

South Africa has world-class infrastructure, exciting innovation, research and development capabilities and an established manufacturing base. We are at the forefront of the development and rolling out of new green technologies and industries, creating new and sustainable jobs in the process. Like Egypt, South Africa is a water scarce country, and this offers exciting new opportunities for sectoral investment. South Africa has created One Stop Investment Shops in all the nine Provinces to assist with the provision of strategic guidance, and to reduce regulatory inefficiencies and reduce red tape for all investors.

South Africa has become one of the most popular trade and investment destinations in the world due to the country ensuring that it can meet specific trade and investment requirements of prospective investors. The introduction of Special Economic Zones to assist investors with all aspects of setting up their operations is a core part of Government policy to encourage commercial activity. These zones provide special incentives to accelerate growth and return on investment. In addition, South Africa's unrivalled scenic beauty and reputation for delivering value-for-money make it an attractive leisure and business travel destination.

Ambassador VW Mavimbela and staff welcome you to the website of the South African Embassy in Egypt. The Embassy's primary focus is to provide information about South Africa on Political, Trade and Tourism issues and to provide traveling facilities to those who intend visiting our beautiful country, South Africa.

Thank You
HE Mr VW Mavimbela
Head of Mission
