An exchange visa may be issued to a foreigner, who is under twenty-five (25) years of age and has received an offer to conduct work for no longer than one (1) year: provided that the prospective employer certifies that the position exists and makes the prescribed commitments. The following information is required:
  1. Application to be submitted in person by the applicant
  2. A duly completed and personally signed visa application form (DHA-1738)
  3. 1 recent EU passport photo
  4. Original passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of the intended visit and containing at least two blank pages for endorsements.
  5. Payment of the prescribed fee DKK430.00 via bank transfer (see details below)
  6. Yellow fever vaccination certificate, if the person travelled or intends traveling from or through a yellow fever endemic area: Provided that the certificate shall not be required where that person travelled or intends traveling in direct transit through such area or where an application is made in the Republic
  7. Proof of medical cover or insurance recognized in the RSA
  8. Proof of financial means to sustain person in the RSA
  9. Valid return ticket not exceeding 12 months
  10. Birth certificate to proof applicant is under the age of 25 years
  11. Police clearance certificate for all applicants 18 years and older
  12. Medical and Radiological reports
  13. Marriage certificate or proof of partnership (if applicable)
  14. A valid work contract from the prospective employer confirming the employment will not be for a period longer than one year (12months)
  15. a signed and dated letter on letterhead of the prospective employer certifying that the position exists (details of when the position was created, the incumbent in the position and how the employer plans to fill the position after the applicant should be provided), and committing himself or herself in writing to:
    1. pay the applicant remuneration which complies with applicable legal requirements – details (amount) of the remuneration must be confirmed on the letter; the employer may be requested to provide written approval from the Department of Labour, if the remuneration is deemed not to comply with applicable legal requirements;
    2. provide for the welfare and the needs of the applicant while in the Republic of South Africa under the exchange visa – in addition, the applicant may be requested to submit the employment contract / offer; and report to the Department of Home Affairs the failure of the applicant to comply with the terms of his or her visa, or to depart when so required;
  16. In the case of a person under the age of 21 years: particulars of the person in the Republic who will act as the learner’s guardian and a confirmatory letter from the intended guardian; and
  17. Proof of consent for the intended stay from both parents or from the custodian parent, along with proof of sole custody in the latter case
  18. Proof of valid residential permit if applicable
  19. Any additional documents/information as required by the Mission e.g. proof of accommodation etc.
(Please take note that you may not conduct work other than work for which the permit is issued and will be valid for one (1) year only)
