Minister Dlamini Zuma arrives in Abuja ahead of the AU Executive Council of Ministers Meeting

Abuja - South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma who arrived in Abuja, Nigeria on Wednesday, 26 January 2005 will today, Thursday, 27th January 2005, participate in the AU Executive Council of Ministers meeting.

The meeting is expected to discuss and make recommendations on, among others:

  • Peace initiatives in the DRC, Ivory Coast and Sudan;
  • Implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)
  • Programme of Action for 2005; and
  • Budget of the organization for 2005.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is also expected to table a report following deliberations of the Ministerial Preparatory Meeting on the Common Defence, Security and Non-Aggression Pact at the AU Executive Council of Ministers Meeting held in Accra, Ghana on Tuesday, 25 January 2005.

Deliberations and recommendations of the AU Executive Council of Foreign Ministers will serve as a basis for discussions by the AU Heads of State and Government Summit scheduled for Sunday - Monday, 30 - 31 January 2005. President Thabo Mbeki will lead the South African delegation, which includes Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, to the Summit.

On arrival in Abuja yesterday Minister Dlamini Zuma attended a consultative meeting of the SADC Ministers followed by a Committee of the African Union on the Scale of Assessments which she chairs.
