Media Advisory: Presidential Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) Working Group Meeting, 6 September 2005

President Thabo Mbeki, accompanied by Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and other Members of the Cabinet, will interact with leaders of the business community on the occasion of the Presidential Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) Working Group Meeting in Cape Town, Tuynhuys, tomorrow, September 6, from 12H00 to 14H00.

The meeting is expected to discuss, among other things, the achievement of a higher economic growth trajectory for South Africa. It will focus on strategies for enhancing investment, skills development and employment creation.

The Working Group last met on 3 August 2004 as the Black Business Working Group where it discussed inter alia, the issue of South African business unity (that informs the shift to a more inclusive and unifying BUSA Working Group), progress made in implementing Growth and Development Summit agreements and black economic empowerment.

Similar to the other sector-based Presidential Working Groups, such as those on Women, the Youth, and Trade Unions, the BUSA Working Group's mandate is to contribute to the South African government's efforts to eradicate poverty and bringing an end to the scourge of underdevelopment that has afflicted the African continent since colonial times.

Business Unity South Africa will be represented by the President of BUSA, Patrice Motsepe, Director of Black Business Executive Circle, Thami Mazwai, President of the Black Business Forum, Nolitha Fakude, Director of the National Black Business Caucus, Danisa Baloyi, Chairman of Millenium Labour Council, Bobby Godsell, CEO of Anglo American, Lazarus Zim and other business leaders.
