President Thabo Mbeki to Hold Discussions with Namibian President, Dr Sam Nujoma

South African President Thabo Mbeki will today, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 host outgoing President of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma for discussions at Tuynhuys in Cape Town.

President Nujoma who is on visit to regional leaders to extend his gratitude and bid them farewell, is scheduled to hand over the Presidency of Namibia on 21 March 2005 to Hifikepunye Pohamba, Namibia¡'s President-elect, following the successful democratic elections held on 15-16 November 2004.

Both President Mbeki and President Nujoma will therefore have an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual concern to the region and the Continent as well as bid farewell to each other. South Africa and Namibia share strong bilateral relations with Presidents Mbeki and Nujoma leading the Heads of State Economic Bilateral Meeting, the focus of which is to promote mutual economic and trade co-operation projects, viz. Spatial Development Initiatives,
tourism, energy matters as well as matters related to the South African Customs Union (SACU) and the SADC.
