South African President Jacob Zuma congratulates Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re-election as the President of the Republic of Uganda
South African President Jacob Zuma has today, 21 February 2011, congratulated Uganda’s President, Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, following his re-election in the Presidential election, which was announced on 20 February 2011.
President Zuma said: “I wish to convey my warmest congratulations on behalf of the Government of the Republic of South Africa and its people on the occasion of your re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda.”
South Africa recognises that the Ugandan Presidential and Parliamentary elections of 18 February 2011 were held in accordance with the African Union (AU) Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa, adopted by the Heads of State and Governments of Member States in July 2002.
South Africa presents its compliments to all the political parties who participated in the electoral process for conducting campaigns that allowed an equal opportunity for all candidates to present their programmes and policy proposals without hindrance.
The Government of South Africa and its citizens are committed to working with the Government of Uganda and her people for the mutual benefit of our two countries.
“I would like to reconfirm my appreciation of the excellent, warm and close relations that exist between our two countries and between its people. It is furthermore my profound wish that these close and brotherly ties will continue to prosper during your new term of Office,” added President Jacob Zuma.
