Organisations History of Relations South
Africa established non-resident diplomatic relations with Grenada on 25 February
1998. This was followed by a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Raphael
Fletcher, who lead a Ministerial Trade Mission to South Africa and met with Minister
Nzo and Deputy President Thabo Mbeki. Trade with Grernada during 1997 and 1998
was nevertheless too minimal to be reflected in official statistics. South
Africa's first non-resident High Commissioner, Ms Thandi Luthuli-Gcabashe, presented
her credentials in St George's on 16 March 1999, at which time the local authorities
expressed an interest in Molasses and arts and crafts from South Africa. Mr
Theodore Ferguson, Grenada's Honorary Consul in South Africa, is based in Pietermaritzburg. Diplomatic
