Mandela Day

African Union (AU)

South African Development Community (SADC)

A South African Wine-Tasting event was held in Hanoi on 18 February 2014 with the participation of more than 150 people which included Ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, managers of trading companies and potential buyers. Also present were reporters from Vietnam VTV and other local magazines and newspapers who also promote South African wines, as the Vietnamese population is keen in reading any kind of publicity on a daily basis.

During the launch, Ambassador Kgomotso Ruth Magau introduced the potential and advantage of importing the newly introduced South African wines.  She gave the audience an overview of the wine industry in South Africa and refreshed everybody‘s memory regarding the political and historical relationship that South Africa and Vietnam enjoyed over many decades. She referred to relations with Vietnam that started during our liberation 20 years ago, and stated that the wine industry in SA  has the potential to strengthen our existing relations.

Following the welcome speech, Mr Martyn Mills, the wine producer and promotor provided the guests with more insight into South African wines by informing them about the history of wine making in South Africa. Mr Mills furthermore presented the audience with interesting facts and pictures about the South African wines in general as well as his wines on promotion in particular. The wines which were tasted during the event were Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage and Premium Cape Red, or otherwise introduced at the tasting as Red-Wedding Banquet, Purple-Sophisticated, Blue-Professional and Black Ultimate Achievement of Success.
