Celebration of South Africa's 20th Annversary of Freedom Day.

On 29 April 2014, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Africa Friendship Association (VAFA) held a ceremony in Hanoi to celebrate South Africa’s 20th Anniversary of Freedom Day. The event was attended by African Ambassadors, the diplomatic community, representatives of the Vietnamese Government and representatives of business and civil society.

In her remarks, Ambassador Kgomotso Ruth Magau mentioned South Africa’s struggle for liberation and in the same breath thanked Vietnam for their support and solidarity that started at the Bandung Conference in 1955. She also elaborated on how in 1955 both countries lobbied for support from organizations and people around the world to contribute to the struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and economic development.

Mr Do Duc Dinh, the Vice Chair of the Vietnam-Africa Association congratulated the South African people on the great achievements reached over the past two decades.  According to Mr Dinh, since the diplomatic relations were established on 22 December 1993, Vietnam and South Africa have enjoyed strong development in bilateral relations, particularly in politics, economics, culture, education and defence.
