Rhino Protection. In 2012, South Africa and Vietnam signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Biodiversity Conservation and Protection. The bilateral agreement has helped to boost the cooperation in rhino protection.


The Opening Ceremony of the Cultural House in Vinh Phuc Province – 22 January 2014. The Cultural House is a humanitarian project supported by Ms. Do Thi Kim Lien South Africa’s Honorary Consul to Ho Chi Minh City. Ms Lien’s initiative is also a commemoration to former President Nelson Mandela, who currently in December 2013.


Hanoi Cultural Day of Peace. The event was organised to highlight the 60th Anniversary of the capital Hanoi’s Liberation Day (10 October 1954 - 2014) and the 15th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Hanoi as a City of Peace.

Celebration of South Africa's 20th Annversary of Freedom Day. On 29 April 2014, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Africa Friendship Association (VAFA) held a ceremony in Hanoi to celebrate South Africa’s 20th Anniversary of Freedom Day.

Showcasing South African Cuisine and Promoting Rhino Protection Awareness at The International Food Festival. On 08 March 2014, the South African Embassy participated in an International Food Festival organised by the Vietnam Service Department for Diplomatic Corps (SDDC) on the occasion of its 50th Year anniversary.

Africa day celebration in Hanoi, 30 May 2014. On the 30 May, 2014, the South African Ambassador, Ms Kgomotso Ruth Magau with the Algerian Ambassador, Mr Chikhi and other diplomats from Libya, Mozambique and Angola as well as officials from Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organization, Vietnam-Africa Friendship Organization and the Institute for Africa & Middle East Studies celebrated Africa Day.

During the event, the Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Cherif Chikhi said that 51 years ago the African Leaders signed in Addis-Ababa (Ethiopia) the agreement related to the foundation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which then became the African Union (AU). Africa also created institutions in order to commit itself to the path of development and to promote democracy. Thus, a program called New Partnership for Africa's Development, NEPAD, was set up in 2001.
South African Airways (SAA) Seminar Held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 26 February 2014. On 26 February 2014, South African Airways (SAA) organised a seminar with the theme “Bringing the world to Africa and taking Africa to the world”, to launch  South African Airways and South African tourism in Hanoi. Various travel agents and tour operators and businesses attended the seminar.

Visit to Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province, 26-28 February 2014. Ambassador Ruth Kgomotso Magau visited Quy Nhon City from 26 to 28 February 2014. On 26 February 2014, the South African delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Binh Dinh Province’s Chairman, Mr Le Huu Loc. During the visit, Chairman Le Huu Loc gave a briefing on the Province’s social and economic information, particularly the timber industry which is one of the key sectors in Binh Dinh.

South African wine tasting in  Hanoi, Vietnam. A South African Wine-Tasting event was held in Hanoi on 18 February 2014 with the participation of more than 150 people which included Ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, managers of trading companies and potential buyers. Also present were reporters from Vietnam VTV and other local magazines and newspapers who also promote South African wines, as the Vietnamese population is keen in reading any kind of publicity on a daily basis.


Visit to the Province of Ninh Binh – 10 July 2013. Ambassador Magau paid courtesy calls on the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Ninh Binh People’s Committee and the Vietnam Communist Party Chief of Ninh Binh Province which are both responsible for the administration of the Province at different levels.
