Notify the IEC of your intention to vote outside South Africa (VEC 10)
 
How does it work?
 
If you will be out of the country on Election Day (07 May 2014) and you qualify, you can submit a VEC10 to notify us of your intention to vote on 30 April 2014 at a South African embassy, high commission or consulate-general abroad. Please note that, by law, it is not possible to vote abroad on any date other than 30 April 2014, and no exceptions can be made.
 
Who can vote abroad?
 
In order to vote abroad, you must be a South African citizen and a registered voter. Check your registration status online.
 
When can I notify the IEC of my intention to vote abroad?
 
Submissions open on proclamation day, 25 February 2014, and close on 12 March 2014 at midnight (UTC+02:00).
 
How do I submit a VEC10 notification?

What must I bring when I vote abroad?
 
In order to vote abroad on 30 April, you must bring:
  • your green, bar-coded ID book; smartcard ID; or valid Temporary Identity Certificate; and
  • your valid South African passport or temporary passport.
