Advisory: Requirements for children, under the age of 18, traveling through South African ports of entry

The requirements for children traveling through the Republic of South Africa took effect on 1 June 2015. The requirements are aimed at establishing the principle that all minors require the consent of their parents when traveling into or out of the Republic.

For Mozambican nationals and Mozambican residents (DIRE):
  • Receive and process study permits
  • Receive and process work permits
  • Receive and process visa applications of Mozambican nationals planning to stay longer than 30 days
  • Receive and process visa applications of foreign nationals with residence in Mozambique
  • Provide consular assistance to South African nationals in distress
  • Receive and process requests for valid travel documents
  • Turnaround time for Visas – 5 to 10 working days
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
  • Question: Do I need a yellow fever certificate?
Only applicants who previously travelled to countries that have yellow fever are required to submit the certificate.
  • Question: How many empty pages do I need to have in my passport?
At least two pages must be reserved for stamps at the port of entry.
  • Question: What is the acceptable validity of my passport to enter South Africa?
Passport MUST be valid no less than 30 days after the end of the intended visit.
