Our Vision

The High Commission in Port of Spain subscribes to, and works towards supporting our DIRCO vision, in our focus on the Africa Diaspora in the region and bilateral efforts in support of a just and equitable world.

Mission

To coordinate, implement and explain South Africa’s foreign policy where applicable and to promote its national interest and values.

History of Relations

South Africa established non-resident diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago on 10 January 1995. Ms T Luthuli- Gcabashe, South Africa's non-resident High Commissioner, presented her credentials in Port of Spain on 4 May 1999.

Trinidad and Tobago's Ministers of Health attended a Pharmaceutical Conference in South Africa in November 1999.

South Africa opened its residential Mission in Port of Spain in December 2007. The Mission is accredited to Barbados, Grenada, the Republic of Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the Republic of Suriname. The Mission is also accredited to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Diplomatic Representation

Ambassador Xoliswa Nomathamsanqa Ngwevela (Thami) is High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and she presented her Letters of Credence to President Anthony Carmona on 17 May 2016 in a ceremony attended also by a selection of school children.

Mr Roger Gopaul, for Trinidad and Tobago, handed his Letters to President Zuma on 19 July 2016.

Barbados: HE Mr PPK Simmons is High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, with non-residence in London.

Grenada: HE Ms F Sandy, is Acting High Commissioner Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Guyana: Ms BH Haley is the Acting High Commissioner

Saint Lucia
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: No representation in South Africa

Suriname: HE Prof Dr Wilfried R Roseval, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
