South Africa has participated in all the major World Expos since 1992, namely, Seville, Spain in 1992; Lisbon, Portugal in 1998; Hannover, Germany in 2000 and Aichi, Japan in 2005. During the last Expo held in Japan, Aichi 2005, some 121 countries participated attracting a total number of 22,049,544 visitors. The Shanghai Expo in 2010 is expected to be the biggest World Expo ever held and has 184 confirmed participants with an expected visitor rate of 70 million people from all over the world.
