“Better Cities, Better Life”

The overall theme of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo is “Better Cities, Better Life”. The theme itself has been chosen on the basis of its relevance in the 21stcentury, namely; it is expected that by 2010, fifty five percent of the world’s population will live in cities.

The World Expo Shanghai 2010 will be a great event to explore the full potential of urban life in the 21st century and a significant period in urban evolution.

The overall Expo theme therefore has a bias towards cities, but given South Africa’s own unique history and the subsequent policy environment we will also highlight the connection between the Urban Renewal and Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Strategies
