Message from the High Commissioner, H.E. Prof.  Major-General (rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo

Dear friends and visitors,

Welcome to the homepage of the South African High Commission in Kampala, and welcome to the Rainbow Nation!

South Africa is an exciting and vibrant country. Our country has made great strides since the first democratic elections 20 years ago, principal among which is the political stability, peaceful co-existence and unity in diversity.

Among the many things that the Government has done to bring a better life for all, is the increase there has been in the delivery of basic services. The majority of South Africans have now regained their dignity and enjoy the fruits of freedom as recipients of good quality housing, water, health care, education, electricity, social security, sanitation and employment.

South Africa’s foreign policy is predicated on making South Africa, the African continent and the rest of the world a better place for all. It is for this reason that we are heavily engaged in the work of the African Union, the United Nations and other important international organizations.

We hope to use our interconnectivity with the rest of the world to develop and enhance our dynamic and strong economy to the benefit of our people in particular and the people of the African continent in general. We are in the process of identifying trade partners around the globe as we seek to grow our economy.

In this regard, we find ourselves in Uganda to consolidate our warm and historically fraternal relations. Regular and increasing interactions through the implementation of the Joint Commission for Co-operation which we entered into in 2013 bear testimony to our closeness as important players on the African continent.

Both countries are important regional players. Security and political stability are the natural guarantors of a healthy economic interaction. We will work with Uganda to put these stabilising factors in place to allow our countries and regions to trade to their full potential.

The High Commission in Kampala is committed to service excellence as we serve the peoples of our countries. We are guided by the pledge we have taken to put people first in line with our service delivery pledge of Batho Pele. We are guided by the values of patriotism, loyalty, dedication, Ubuntu, equity and integrity.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all South Africans in Uganda to participate in the Registration of South Africans Abroad (ROSA) campaign.

Through this campaign, South Africans who are travelling, working, living or studying abroad are enabled to register online with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO).  DIRCO will be able to locate any South African in the event of a consular emergency, allow the department to verify their status as a South African and duly inform your next of kin of their whereabouts. Registration is voluntary and free and your information is kept private.  Please click on the ROSA link at the top of this page to register.

I hope that you will find this webpage useful whether you are planning to travel to South Africa, in need of consular services, or simply wanting to learn more about our beautiful country.

I encourage you to explore the various links for more information on issues such as trade, investment and tourism etc.
Happy surfing and thank you.
